Iceman Doesn't Want to Fight Couture. Again.
Finally a word from Chuck Liddell regarding the rumors that he and Randy Couture will fight for a fourth time.
From MMAMania.com:
“The rumor that me and Randy are fighting in June … no one said a word to me. And I don’t want to wait until June to fight. So we’ll see what happens. We’ll have to talk to Dana [White] about that and see what the plans are. But I haven’t heard anything about it. I don’t know where it came from or who was talking about it. To me at this point it doesn’t make sense.”
Liddell is right. It seems that no one wants this fight to happen. It's like this past summer's movie Tropic Thunder, where in the beginning Ben Stiller's character made six Scorcher movies. There is no point to it, other than making a bunch of money.
Both of these fighters are at the end of their fighting careers, with Randy already retiring and/or resigning two times. I can hear Dana White now, "This is the biggest match-up ever, again. These two fighters will lay it all on the line....again!" Throw in a few expletives and Dana will continue, "You thought this was over, wait until you see the same two fighters going at it...again!!!"
Thank goodness the managers of both Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell also don't want this fight happening. Again.
Sore Loser Manny Tapia: “I thought they called it too early”
Manny Tapia is complaining that his fight against WEC's bantamweight champion Miguel Torres was stopped prematurely.
What I saw was Tapia getting rocked really good once, getting back up, then getting knocked out and pounded on for a good while before the referee intervened. Tapia can join a list of sore losers that includes Houston Alexander after his knockout loss to James "The Sandman" Irvin earlier this year.
There is no way any referee would have let last night's fight continue with Miguel inflicting as much damage as he did without resistance from Manny.
WEC 37 Payouts
- Miguel Torres ($44,000) def. Manny Tapia ($6,000)
- Wagnney Fabiano ($22,000) def. Akitoshi Tamura ($6,000)
- Brian Bowles ($16,000) def. Will Ribeiro ($4,000)
- Joseph Benavidez ($17,000) def. Danny Martinez ($2,000)
- Johny Hendricks ($16,000) def. Justin Haskins ($3,000)
- Mark Munoz ($20,000) def. Ricardo Barros ($3,000)
- Diego Nunes ($6,000) def. Cole Province ($3,000)
- Bart Palaszewski ($8,000) def. Alex Karalexis ($8,000)
- Cub Swanson ($10,000) def. Hirouki Takaya ($5,500)
- Shane Roller ($16,000) def. Mike Budnik ($4,000)
All of the night's winning fighters earned 50 percent of their pay to "show" and an additional 50 percent as "win bonuses." For example, Torres earned a guaranteed $22,000 for the fight plus an additional $22,000 for his victory.
Not too bad. There were honors bonuses handed out to Brian Bowles for submission of the night, Bart Palaszewski for KO of the night and Cub Swanson and Hiroyuki Takaya for fight of the night. Each of those bonuses was $7,500.

Diego Dropping Down to 155?
From Diego Sanchez's MySpace page:
Wednesday, December 03, 2008
I’m back!
So my account got hacked and it took a while to get it fixed, but I'm back. I'm training hard and will be dropping down to fight at 155. I will keep you all posted on the info of the fight! But I promise you all that I will do my best to win.
I thought Sanchez looked outstanding against Fiorovanti and showed much improved stand-up. His cardio has always been awesome, he has great subs and his motor runs at full speed at all times. But, when he fought Fitch, Diego was clearly the smaller fighter and guys like Alves & GSP would make him look like a midget.
First fight at 155 I would like to see is a rematch with Florian. There are endless other possibilites for him at 155 such as match-ups against Stevenson, Edgar, Maynard, BJ Penn and Tyson Griffin.
Time to Think Positive For a Change -- My Thoughts on TUF Season 8
I was going to write a blog about last night's episode but after watching the dirtbag, low-life jack-ass get his due I thought to myself, "Take your time and write something positive about the show. Write about how awesome Phillipe Nover is or how gratifying that victory was for Efrain."
After all, why waste anymore time or space on someone who is so inconsequential? Then I came on here and read the commentary by MMAcademics and that reaffirmed my decision. Everything that needed to be said was said right there. I still cannot believe what a hypocrite Dana White is. Don't get me wrong -- the sight of Junie Browning tapping out like a baby is something I will always appreciate but he should have never been given this opportunity.
Exclusive: Mike Brown, the Man Who Knocked the King Off His Throne
By Bryan Levick, FightTicker.com blogger
My busy MMA weekend included an interview with the new WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown, who I think you will find to be very candid, forthright and blue collar. He's the guy next door who works hard and appreciates everything.

Justice Not Served: TUF Represents Everything Wrong with MMA

By David T. Mayeda, PhD, FightTicker.com Social Issues Contributor
So I broke down tonight and watched The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). All season I’ve been boycotting the show, at most watching a few of the fights at the end of one or two episodes. But after watching Miguel Torres dismantle Manny Tapia, I was in an MMA mood and must admit was seduced by the preview I saw of Junie Browning throwing a glass at another fighter. The hype machine got me.
