Seth Petruzelli Paid to "Stand and Trade"...Or Was He?

07Kimbo vs Petruzelli_small.jpg

From CagePotato.com:

Seth Petruzelli: My original plan was to throw a lot of push kicks, they’re called teeps…have him think that I’m going to throw ‘em to try to rush in more, and then shoot in on him, obviously…I knew I would do alright standing up with him. The promoters kinda hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him. They didn’t want me to take him down. Let’s just put it that way. It was worth my while to try and stand up and punch with him.

Interesting...not surprising, but interesting.

But check this out from FiveOuncesofPain.com:

Upon being contacted by FiveOuncesOfPain.com for a followup, Petruzelli indicated that he felt his words during the 104.1 FM interview are being twisted and he categorically denied accusations that EliteXC somehow tried to influence his strategy through financial considerations.

“What was meant to be said was that I wanted to keep the fight standing for myself because I knew that was what the crowd, the promoters, and everyone wanted to see because that’s more exciting than just taking someone to the ground,” Petruzelli said. “That was my thing only. I wanted to keep it exciting so I decided to keep it standing. It had nothing to do with anybody else. That was all me.”

Upon being asked directly whether EliteXC officials had even hinted that he could receive a bonus by keeping the fight standing, Petruzelli clarified that no such act had taken place.

Is that so? It's funny how people's words get twisted around like that. I recently came across a similar situation in my professional life where a defendant said he couldn't show up for a court appearance because his sister was in a car wreck and he was at the hospital with her. However, he later stated that we misunderstood him, and what he meant was that his aunt was in the hospital with a diabetes-related condition when he wasn't even in the same town. Yeah, we clearly misunderstood him, just like everyone misunderstood Petruzelli.

Did EliteXC "hint" that they wanted it to be a stand-up fight? Probably. Did they offer Petruzelli extra money for that? Maybe. Regardless of any of that, was it hilarious to watch Kimbo get knocked on his ass while $kala yelled in the background? Absolutely.

I don't think he is worried

I don't think he is worried about the bigger payday. I think he could possibly get arrested for fight fixing. I know that the commission assigns refs, but that could also explain the Nelson stand up.

On that same radio show, Seth said he was paid in the 6 figure range for the fight and considering his payout was 50,000 I would say that his words werent twisted

Not surprising. EliteXC is

Not surprising. EliteXC is desperate. After all, Jared Shaw is the head of the promotion. That's all you need to know.

Look at the facts 1. Frank

Look at the facts
1. Frank was brought up, cleared, and shot down very quickly.

2. My boy Roy Nelson was in a good spot before getting screwed.

3. They thought they had another can, then had to pay Kimbo another few hundred thousand to fight him.

4. He said he was paid to keep it standing.

Need I say more? I hope Elite and maybe Affliction goes under without hurting MMA all together a lot, but I would guess it set it back a few years.

I wonder if Ken faked the cut to get out of a fixed fight? And I wonder if there will be some kind of federal investigation? If for no other reason just because it looks so suspecious.
