Who knows? Certainly not I

UFC.jpg

One thing you'll never read here is that I am an expert! Nor shall I ever be.What I am is an average Joe or more accurately an average Jay. I'm as blue collar as you'd ever care to meet. I drove a cab for ten years in KC and dispatched and drove courier work another ten. I've got kids, grandkids, a wife of 19 years, a cute dog and a pick up in the drive. What you might ask does this have to do with the price of ten pounds of yak meat In Tibet?

My point is this -- if I should ever find it -- it is that UFC 88 cost too much for too little for the average guy. I know, I know, just days ago I urged that the UFC should offer entertainment for everyone, and I stick with that statement.

But, the UFC offered four desperate fighters knowing that should they lose they'd virtually be done with their careers, with the Bigs. That gives a lot of fighters a big incentive to fight not to lose -- case in point the Hendo fight. Marquardt's fight was good, but very short, and although my heart just bled for Matt Hammill I don't think anyone was surprised at Franklin's stellar performance. Neither Lambert nor MacDonald could afford to lose and for that matter, Liddell, loser of last two out of three couldn't either. I thought the Brown vs. Kim fight was an OK fight and the Pellegrino vs. Tavares bout might have been best. The main event was great for shock value -- I never saw it coming, but I don't see it as a classic main event.

Neither is Bisping vs.Leben. I checked out UFC 1 from Blockbuster fifteen years ago. I've seen every fight since -- most four or five times; I'm just asking that if there's no title fight, knock off ten bucks it's not going to break the UFC, and their longtime fans will appreciate it.

Ostensibly I was going to go with my five worst fights and why but I never really know 'til I sit down to type. Who knows what the topic might be? It's certainly not I.

Not only are the prices

Not only are the prices outrageous for some of these PPV cards, the UFC could squeeze in more dark card fights on the telecast if it chose to. Instead, we see endless loops of pre-fight hype and promo.

I don't even order the fights at home anymore except for the biggest ones. I go to a nearby bar AND get some beers AND still end up saving money for the night.

This is one reason why I

This is one reason why I think organizations like Affliction have a fighting chance to offer both the fighters and the fans much more value.

Kommisar's White's arrogance is over the top. Between the outrageous prices for too often mediocre cards, like the next one, screwing the fighters over for money and decent pay, White's hubris is going to cost the UFC. I find it funny that so many bloggers don't see that.

The main problem is that the UFC is a ship that almost runs itself now, regardless of what White says. And, for the most part, White's competition is incompetent.

The UFC also still puts on the best MMA cards in the world on the most consistent basis.

So, while White is definitely arrogant, he's probably earned the right to be that way. The day White stops talking is the day he has true competition. Right now, that competition doesn't exist.

We've already had the Dana

We've already had the Dana White discussions in the past snowcrash. Its not that we don't have an opinion on him but we have just had this argument before.

Affliction is already starting to go down the drain so don't put to much hope in it for them to survive long.
