Thiago Silva hurt , UFC 89 fight vs. Lyoto Machida off
The upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship show in England has lost one of its marquee fighters. MMAWeekly.com has confirmed that Thiago Silva has been forced out of his upcoming bout with Lyoto Machida at UFC 89 on Oct. 18 due to injury.
Other reports indicate that Silva has been dealing with back issues. The UFC will look for another fighter to fill his spot against the undefeated Machida. With six weeks left the promotion should be able to find someone capable.
Still, this is a big blow for both fighters since a win for either guy would have put that person one step closer to a title shot. Some feel that Machida should have been next in line anyway, but it is widely assumed Chuck Liddell will get the first shot at Forrest Griffin if he wins his fight with Rashad Evans this weekend.
