Regional Promotion Watch: XFC to hold Sept. 13 event in Tampa, Fla.
While most MMA fans know about high-profile promotions such as the UFC, WEC, Affliction, EliteXC, and even Strikeforce, there are many smaller, more regional promotions out there also putting on very good events in front of decent-sized crowds. One such promotion -- Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) -- runs shows in the southeastern part of the United States.
XFC's next event is at the St. Pete Times Forum on September 13 in Tampa Bay, Florida. According to the XFC Web site, the event will be the latest in a series of XFC events that salute our armed forces. Checking out the 11-bout fight card for the September 13 event, there aren't any recognizable names outside of main event fighter Gan McGee, who takes on a 5'9" heavyweight with a purported 27-34 pro MMA record.
In other words, the real gold at events like these comes from the undercard where you have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the up-and-coming fighters in the sport. In addition, promotions like XFC often have a full-day's schedule that includes non-MMA programming. On Sept. 13, XFC will have a custom bike contest, a bikini contest, a dance routine, and more before the MMA action.
According to an e-mail sent to FightTicker.com by XFC about the upcoming event:
This fight will be available live on line streaming...Our previous shows have had an average of 12,000 people in attendance and now with live on line streaming there is no stopping us in our ongoing growth.
