EliteXC heavyweight champ Antonio Silva tests positive for Boldenone

antonio_silva.jpg

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has informed FightTicker.com that EliteXC heavyweight champ Antonio Silva tested positive for Boldenone at EliteXC's "Unfinished Business" event on July 26.

According to the email sent to FightTicker.com by the CSAC:

Reigning Elite XC World Heavyweight Champion Antonio Silva Jr., who last competed on July 26 in Stockton, has tested positive for Boldenone. Independent tests were conducted by Quest Diagnostics for the "A" Sample and Laboratoire De Controle Du Dopage for the "B" Sample. He has been suspended for one year retroactive to the conclusion of the bout and fined $2,500.

According to the email, the three other remaining fighters on the card for whom test results were unknown have all tested negative:

Justin Eilers - Clear
Nick Thompson - Clear
Jake Shields - Clear

Here is information about Boldenone on Wikipedia.com:

Boldenone (1,4-androstadiene-3-one-17?-ol, available as the undecylenate ester), also known under the trade names Equipoise, Ganabol, Equigan and Ultragan, is an anabolic steroid developed for veterinary use, mostly for treatment of horses. It is not indicated for use in humans in the US and is only available through veterinary clinics.
...
It has a very long half-life, and can show up on a steroid test for up to 1.5 years, due to the long undecylenate ester attached to the parent steroid.

Silva defeated Justin Eilers by second-round TKO to earn the title at "Unfinished Business", becoming EliteXC's first heavyweight champ. At this point, there's no word on whether Silva will be stripped of the title and who, if anyone, will compete for the vacant title.

In addition to the July 26 EliteXC drug test failure, the CSAC has informed FightTicker.com that William "Yobie" Jacobsen, who fought on last Friday's ShoXC card failed to take his test for drugs of abuse and has thus been suspended indefinitely.

Considering there is no

Considering there is no approved use for Boldenone in humans, I think he would have trouble explaining using it for an injury. Unless, he's saying he's part horse...

This pretty much destroys EliteXC's heavyweight division. They have no other legit talent. By the time Silva returns, who knows if EliteXC will even be around anymore.

Your next EliteXC heavyweight champ: Kimbo Slice!!!

Over at the underground,

Over at the underground, Silva's manager has these words from Silva:

Dear Family, Friends, Fans and Public, I did not use the steroid Boldenone, or any other steroid of prohibited substance. I dont agree and never have agreed with the use of this kind of product in order to win, for this is cheating. I will go to the full extent of my power and the law to prove my innocence in this matter.

And later on says this himself about Silva:

My friends, Antonio is one ofthe hardest working, most serious athletes I know. He also is a man that holds high his principles. We dont know at this point how he tested positive for a Horse steroid, but what we do know is that he doesnt make use of these kind of products. How ever, we will find out or die trying. We are allways reading about guys getting caught and declaring there innocence, and it is allways met with a degree of skepticism, but the truh is that career hurting mistakes are beeing made, and it is high time the we find out how and why they happen. We are extremely sure of our selves in this matter, and are willing to go to the very gates of hell to prove that we are being wronged. Hopefully, this will not only clear Antonio, but also help clear other peolple that have had the same thing happen to them.

You know, I do understand the skeptism...I have felt it myself, but this time I know for sure that this Athlete, that happens to be my guy, didnt take this steroid ot any other..why? Because he cant, he cant mess around with his hormone levels at the risk of ending up with a serious health problem....but let me throw out a few points here...we are pros, why would we risk something like this when we know we would be fighting under the harshest comission in the world? Why would we use a product thats designed for Horses? Honestly, beisides all the reasons I have allready posted, it would be plain stupid...and we will prove it

No, you must understand, Antonio has acromegaly, we operated on his pituitary, he has been constantly being getting examined, he has 1 daughter and another one on the way, it would ne extremly foolish for him to take something like this, and he knows it...we have known this ever since we understood his condition, it would be beyond his fighting, it be a risk to his health, and he wouldnt take it, nor would we let him.

I understand all of you...I understand the ones that taint, the ones that bash, and I apreciate the people that ask decent questions...but let me turn the table here for the skeptics...lets ask ourselves, what if Sherk didnt take anything? What if there is a problema with the testing prcedures? How many guys may have been hurt in error? I know for absolute sure that Antonio did not take Boldolone, now I am asking myselfe about other cases...the CSAC is there tocontrol and make sure the sport is run in a professional and fair way, but that does not mean that they are not error prone, CSAC = Human beings trying to acomplish something, and Human beings make mistakes....what is sad, and stupid, is to not have the humility to look and try to see if maybe something is wrong here....

I hope he didnt do it. Easy

I hope he didnt do it. Easy way to tell though, he came up clean in his first fight on CBS, so IF he did take it, he took it between then and his most recent fight. From what I have read (and what is stated in the article) this type of steroid can be detected in the body for well over a year. So.... take another test!! If it's actually there it will show up again in a second test. And if it is, he knowingly or unknowingly recieved whatever benefit it may have given him.

Honestly though I for one don't trust the state of California to handle anything properly or accurately. The CASC has a history of biased and controversy in MMA AND Boxing!
