Report: CBS Executive promises better-run second EliteXC show on CBS

elitexc.JPG

Kevin Iole has a report at MMAJunkie.com about EliteXC's second show this Saturday on CBS. Iole talked to Kelly Kahl, senior executive vice president of CBS Primetime, about the show and Kahl indicates it will be much more streamlined compared to the first telecast on May 31.

Regarding some of the extracurriculars such as cheerleaders and Phil Baroni's over-the-top entrance in the first telecast, Kahl says this:

"To be perfectly honest, I think there was more of a wrestling element to that show and I didn't like it. I'd much rather present them as great athletes and warriors, which they are, but it got a bit clownish and that didn't do us any favors."

However, given that the ratings increased over the course of the May 31 telecast, Kahl, while admitting much of that had to do with the fascination with Kimbo Slice, also says this:

"But people wouldn't have stuck around to watch if it had been so horrible. So what we have to do is look at the first one and figure what worked and what we liked and use that on this one and then eliminate the things that didn't work so well."

There were also complaints that there was very little fighting in the first hour of the first show. And, Iole writes this about the change in pacing for the second show:

That meant that there was just two minutes, 12 seconds of fighting in the first 71 minutes of the show. Kahl intends to make certain that won't happen again on Saturday's card, which features a main event rematch between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith for the EliteXC middleweight title.

It's going to be commercial, fight, commercial, fight, Kahl said. The breaks may be longer as a result, but there won't be nearly as much downtime.

I'll believe it when I see

I'll believe it when I see it. I think it'll be much better than the first tho. I am glad to see the amount of fighting in the first 71 minutes was addressed. That was just unbelievable!

I'm the Capo mess with me and I'll tell you where to go!

The last one that was on CBS

The last one that was on CBS was horrible. At least they have the Lawler/Smith rematch, but I really have no hope for the rest of the show after watching the last one.
