James Irvin: "I can see it on everyone's face as they're walking me off to slaughter"
Yahoo.com's Steve Cofield recently did a radio interview with James Irvin in advance of his light heavyweight bout against Anderson Silva this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 14. Cofield has included quotes from that interview and the main theme is respect -- or the lack thereof -- for Irvin.
Here are some quotes from Irvin:
"I can see it on everyone's face as they're walking me off to slaughter. It just makes it that much easier for me to go in there with guns a blazing. I have nothing to lose. July 19th, he's going to find out why there's weight classes. My weight is going to be like my body armor. I will have no problem taking two or three of his shots to land mine."
"Everyone's looking past me, even the Palms. They had my name spelled wrong out front. It was I-R-W-I-N. The first thing they said was they no Vs so I said cut a W in half. That's wonderful."

heh ... irvin should have been happy because that misspelling is likely the only W he sees come out of this night (yeah, i picked silva by tko ... irvin has terrible luck and even if he ends up looking good, something horrible will happen to him)

And what do you guys want him to say? That sure, he's going to lose this fight? You have to have confidence or go nowhere fast. Could you imagine the fallout if he went around saying, sure, Silva's going to kick my ass? I don't see him winning either, but I do give him credit, and a ton of it, for taking this fight.
