Report: DREAM and Pro Elite announce partnership
MMAWeekly.com reported Saturday that Japanese MMA promotion DREAM has reached an agreement with Pro Elite (parent company of EliteXC) on a broad-reaching partnership.
According to the report, the two MMA organizations will share fighters and referees and will also do co-promotions, with plans to hold co-promoted events in Korea and England.
Pro Elite also intends to open offices in Japan and an executive of the company stated that network broadcast of co-promoted events is part of the plan as well.

This agreement is big. I'll give Gary Shaw credit. He said he wanted to be cooperative and he has been. Slowly but surely, Pro Elite's potential fighter pool has grown, they have a couple of TV deals, and they're expanding out geographically.
Outside of Zuffa, they have to be considered the next biggest MMA org. Now, can they stay afloat financially?

It's a bold statement but I won't bash you. I still think most of the matchups I want to see are in the UFC and they still have the smoothest running ship.
But, let's see what happens with this whole CBS deal and let's see how long it takes for the UFC to get on network TV...
The best thing about all this is that fighters now have real options here in the US. That's good for them and for us as fans...

until they put out a show that people at the office talk about...then the UFC is still #1.
ask some random person on the street what pro elite is and they'll probably answer a supplements company or a gym...ask some random person on the street what dream is and they'll probably answer some lingerie company or porno company.
people know the UFC...people buy the UFC pay per views....they're still #1 until Elite can beat them in PPVs.

i've heard zero excitement about this nog vs mir show. only negative stuff (me included).
the UFC should just move on.
the UFC should just move on. do we really need a TUF show now? it did what it could, it was great, but the UFC can just sign these guys anyway and they can just work their way up. why not do something different for a reality show?...like a buildup of a championship fight like HBO did with del la hoya and mayweather. that would be awesome.

Interesting question. On one hand I'm tempted to say TUF won't ruin the UFC but I think we can safely say it's not helping either.
On the other hand, this will be three straight title matches pushed off because of TUF. I'm not a fan of that.
That means the promotion's best fighters are not fighting as often as they should and that hurts the product.
Everything I'm reading indicates TUF is going to be done as a show soon anyway (1-2 years)...The ratings are on the decline and it's not really uncovering any large number of super talents...

you'd have one or two degenerates gambling their winnings away in a night, or drinking all night and missing a practice. i know this isn't the picture Dana wants to set, but as long as they're not fighting guys at the clubs it's not like people are surprised that 20-28 yr olds go out and drink and act like idiots.

I'll raise you one Papa -- let's also allow outsiders into the house. Girlfriends, whoever. That will add to the drama as well.
Let's see how these guys deal with temptation. Let's find out who wants to be a reality TV star and who wants to be a fighter.

DO TUF international... I would love to see these guys go to Thailand and train living at a Muay Thai gym in a the poorest parts of the world. Or go down to Brazil and have TUF there... have the famous open challenges to rival gyms and see how they compare to locals...
