Anyone Interested?
On 5oz of pain they have been running a mock MMA draft, I thought it would be cool for us to do something similar, maybe even start a fantasy league. My idea would be to get a group of us together, maybe 12-15 of us and run a draft on a night when we will all be available. I think it would be interesting to see just how much people would back their statements up. The premise is simple, imagine we are starting a new organization and every fighter is a free agent. You would not only be picking a fighter who is the most gifted, you have to pick guys who would put people in the arena, sell ppv's and merchandise. So yeah Anderson Silva is the best fighter in most people's minds but would he make the most sense financially to pick him at number 1?
Let me know what you guys think, give me some of your ideas on how this could work.
I plan on being around more as my schedule has lightened up somewhat.

I dont know about you, but I
I dont know about you, but I plan to blow my entire budget on getting the most un-marketable fighter (speaks no English, most people dont know who he is, and still wears the old-school nutthuger pro wrestling swimming shorts, and looks overweight) to face another hard-to-market fighter who is most famous for proving how tough another fighter by taking a schlacking from a 43 year old and crying when he thinks people dont like him. In total, I will pay out more for that one fight in guarantees than the UFC did on thier entire last card. How's my mock-draft looking??

Seriously, I was just reading on another site about Fedor getting a $2mm guarantee for his supposed fight with Silvia who will get somewhere around a $1mm guarantee. I know it's already been discussed on this site - but that's SOOO crazy for those two!! $3,000,000 in guarantees for two less than popular fighters? I will absolutely not miss that fight - but I think I am in the minority... I think most casual fans will skip it and it will be financial disaster for Affliction (or whoever actually ends up promoting it).
I started thinking of it trying to imagine how a mock-draft could work if you had to account for what they are getting paid by the promotion - and those two came to mind.

actually now that i think
actually now that i think about it...after he lost, i kind of lost interest in boxing. i realized he wasn't the greatest boxer ever, but you definitely got every penny worth when you paid to watch him fight.
he'd get knocked down often because of his style, but it was almost impossible not to be entertained in some fashion by his antics, fight style, and ring entrances.
