Explain to me why MMA is a new thing
I brought this up a long time ago and me and ajmarti82 and maybe Birdman (iamapacker at that time) had talked about it. MMA is more or less combining more than one fighting style and making one. So when the Greeks came up with Pankration 50,000,000,000,000 years ago did someone forget to write down that they had came up with it?
With submissions, more rules than the early UFC days and a combination of boxing, wrestling, and submissions how is it not called the true MMA?

Eers, great point. What kind of competition was that? Like you said, it looked pretty much like MMA...

I suppose the only real distinction is modern mma vs. traditional mma. modern mma is fought in a cage or ring rather than a mat and may have some slight rules variations. But, it's all the same from what I can tell...
Right .....They had more rules than the early UFC days. The ref had a stick to enforce the rules, that is funny. I would have loved to seen the ref wack Penn when he forgot to let go of Jens Pulver...lol

How about using the stick to force more action...maybe a taser at the end of the stick...
Those were the two I was thinking of...But with Penn's fight coming up I picked him lol

Pankration was rumored to be in the olympics at one point a few years ago.
And Bruce Lee was one of the early people speaking about the concept of 'MMA'... he believed and taught there was no true 'superior' martial art but that you had to study many in order to become a true Martial Artist.
"Pankration was rumored to be in the olympics at one point a few years ago. "
they talked about putting it back in the modern Olympics........It was in the Olympics for many years like a few thousand years ago.

If MMA is bad, football players should be limited to one position!!
