Fight Ticker Radio Episode 2 Archived: Dr. Benjamin, Dr. Mayeda
Fight Ticker Radio's second episode is in the books and the segment is now archived here. Not only can you play the show on the blogtalkradio Web site, you can also download the show in mp3 format and transfer it to your portable music players.
In addition, if you look on the far right sidebar of this site under the "Fight Ticker Radio" heading, you'll see a player that allows you to play shows while you're on FightTicker.com. I've also included the player below in this blog entry.
My guests on this week's show were orthopedic surgeon Dr. Johnny Benjamin, MD as well as sociologist and lead author of Fighting for Acceptance Dr. David Mayeda, PhD. The interview with Dr. Benjamin ran the first 30 minutes while the interview with Dr. Mayeda ran the second 30 minutes.
I talked to Dr. Benjamin about the following topics:
- Corey Hill's leg break
- Weight-cutting in MMA
- Razak Al-Hassan's arm injury
- Concussions
- Steroid testing and the Antonio Silva case -- does Silva have a good defense?
- And more...
I talked to Dr. Mayeda about the following topics:
- TUF, TUF 8 and Junie Browning
- Steve Cantwell's comments after the Al-Hassan armbar
- How can MMA breakthrough into the mainstream?
- MMA fighters and motorcycles
- Combat culture in Hawaii and Thailand
- Who are role models in MMA?
- And much more...
I am very interested in your feedback! Feel free to chime in with your thoughts. This is a work in progress!

BTW, I lied. I might do a pre-UFC 92 show next Friday. We'll see. Not sure if I'll be willing to interrupt the spirit of peace and tranquility of the season for discussions of unbridled violence.
Also on that note, look for info regarding FightTicker.com's second viewing party for UFC 92 coming soon. Just so you know, it'll be at The Greene Turtle in Fells Point.
And, also look for a UFC 92 giveaway contest sponsored by House of Pain. Busy week on the site next week...

Thanks Phoenix! About
Thanks Phoenix!
About calling in, feel free to call in any time during the show. I may not get to you right away but I will get to you. I'm not planning on setting aside a specific time during the show for call-ins -- I'll be going to callers as you call in.
Also, is Thursday night a good time for everyone? A part of me wonders whether a weekend morning might be better but I like to sleep in on weekends so I'm not a huge fan of that idea.
And, if you're not planning on calling in, well, I guess it doesn't matter when I do the show because you can listen to it at your leisure...

Pramit, it's turning out great. I was actually curious to here what the Doc had to say about the injuries, so that was nice.
And if you need other people to call in, I like to babble, and would be happy to do it on the show.
