Eliot Marshall's TUF 8 Blog: Episode 4

fireMarshall_10.jpg

FightTicker.com would like to welcome TUF 8 contestant Eliot Marshall to the site. Eliot will be blogging after every TUF 8 episode. Here is his entry for episode 4.

So, the episode begins with all of us watching the UFC. First a little bit of chronology. All of the craziness occurred before the first fight between Bader and Tom. It was the first weekend that we were in the house. Junie and Shane were drinking heavily. It wasn’t a big deal until Junie threw the peanuts at Kyle. When Kyle threw them back you could see Junie just lose it. Junie threw the glass at Kyle and it cut him on the arm. It wasn’t a bad cut, just a small one on the arm. Junie and Shane continued to drink upstairs with everybody. Kryzstof and I decided to stay out of all the BS. We heard a big ruckus so we decided to go upstairs and see what happened. When we got up there Shane was pushing Roli and everybody broke it up. Roli looked pretty scared when Shane was in his face. Shane was wasted and he kept telling Kryzstof and me that he looked up to us like father figures. It was pretty funny.

After that Junie and Shane went outside and started destroying all the stuff outside. It annoyed all of us because we had nice stuff out there that we used and they wrecked it. When we all got down to the pool area Junie picked up a bottle and was threatening everybody to come near him and see what happens. He was totally out of control. When Kryzstof and Bader gave Junie’s clothes a wash he got even more upset. He tried to pull Bader into the pool and I was pulling him out. We were laughing about Junie push kicking Tom to the pavement for weeks. It all ended with Junie punching Bader and Jules and then deciding it was time to go bipolar again and cry.

We were all sure Dana was going to come over and send Junie home. It took a couple days for Dana to come by, but when he did you could see he wasn’t happy. When he was laying into Junie, Junie started to cry again. I’ve never seen a grown (I guess) adult cry so much. He decided to let Junie stay. I disagreed with his decision. Junie threw the glass at Kyle and was walking around with a bottle threatening people. If the glass hit Kyle’s eye his time on the show was over. If he really would have snapped and hit any of us with that bottle then our time would be over. I felt he was too much of a risk to keep around.

Dana’s other decision was to make Shane be the first lightweight fight. As soon as Dana said this you could see Shane’s demeanor change. He was extremely nervous. He wouldn’t talk to anybody and just sat around quietly. When Big Nog announced that Efrain would be the one to fight him we weren’t surprised. I felt that if Shane’s head was ok that he could beat Efrain, but it wasn’t. There was no way that Shane was going to win that fight. I don’t say this because I disliked Shane. It’s the opposite -- I liked him more then I liked Efrain. It was absolutely hilarious when Junie and Efrain were arguing on the couch. Junie said that Efrain could never beat him and then he said that Efrain submitted him ten times in a row with a guillotine. How in the world can you think someone can’t beat you if they submitted you ten times in one training session? I don’t care if you are cutting weight or not because they were both cutting weight.

The fight was a good fight. Shane looked good at first. His striking was good -- he just seemed tentative. He was doing well until the take down. Efrain controlled the rest of the round with positioning and ground and pound. After the round Shane was very tired. He came out very hard in the second, but you could see it wouldn’t last and that he was going to blow his wad. That is exactly what happened and Shane stuck his hand back in a triangle. I guess all that drinking a couple days before didn’t pay off.

What Junie was saying after the fight was ridiculous. He said that Efrain just laid on Shane and won a boring fight. That wasn’t the case at all. Efrain finished Shane. If you get stopped there is nothing you or anyone else can say afterward. Efrain wore Shane down and then beat him at his own game, and those are the facts. Junie jumping in the cage was just more of Junie being Junie. He doesn’t even remember what happens after he does it. I guess we will have to see what happens to him after these antics. Next week is a light heavyweight fight.

All I can say is Junie needs

All I can say is Junie needs serious psychological help. He has major, major anger management problems. He gets a second chance from Dana and next thing you see is him in the face of Efrain daring him to fight him in the house. I dont know the time frame due to editing that could be happening at different times but to get a second chance at a chance of a lifetime and act like he does is mind blowing. Then he completely snaps at the end of the show. What the hell was all that about? I knew who was going to win the fight half way through the show due to the previews from last week. I knew Efrain was going to win and Junie was going to blow his top and jump over the cage. What I dont understand is why he did this. He had no reason to do it. His statements about it being boring and Efrain just laying on him were completely false. He lost his temper again and went nuts. He really needs to seek medical help to get this under control. I also am very interested to see if Dana kicks him off the show next week. He should but he should also see about helping him out psychologically. He has talent and will be a very good fighter but he needs to get his temper in check big time. Dana is right there in the stands, is he not, during the fights. He starts the fights so I am assuming he stays and watches the fight so for Junie to do this right in front of Dana after he just got a second chance just baffles me.

I have this episode dvr'ed.

I have this episode dvr'ed. I'll be watching it tonight. I just couldn't stay up last night. Would it be too much to ask Spike TV to move TUF up an hour or two? I mean, let's be honest -- isn't the UFC the only reason to tune in to Spike?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Junie drama...

Between your post and Eliot's entry I'm already thinking that. I'm also wondering about some sort of double standard with regards to fighter conduct on the show. I have to think about it. It would be nice to compile a list of all the fighters who've been kicked off the show and why.

Thats kinda what I was

Thats kinda what I was thinking while watching it. Double standard because Junie is actually a good fighter with lots of potential. Lets keep them both on the show and just really punish Shane by making him fight earlier. I guess we will see what happens next week.

Junie looks like he could be

Junie looks like he could be a great fighter but IMO if he was another Gabe R. Dana would have sent him home. I also think he will be staying Big Nog wants to try to take him out.

I really have mixed emotions

I really have mixed emotions on this. I have known Junie for a long time. He has fought for me here in Ashland before and I have judged alot of his fights.

The Junie I know has always been very respectful and one hell of a fighter. He has always been cocky, so is his brother Rob, but it was usually in an entertainment type way.

I knew before the first episode aired that he would ham it up, but I have to say that I am shocked by how far it has went.

He has mad skills and I think that he can win the entire thing, that is if he is able to stay on the show. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next. I hope that he gets it together............

Thanks for that perspective Kenny. So, it sounds like you're saying he's playing it up for the camera. But, my question is, why? What does he hope to gain from these antics? Is it to get into other fighters' heads or is it to gain some sort of faux celebrity status?

He has to go before he hurts

He has to go before he hurts someone, somebody hurts him and then they lose their shot at their dream. A human being can only take so much and eventually he is going to get in someone's face and that person isn't going to hold back. He is giving this show, The UFC and mma a bad image with his child like antics.

Well I guess it is safe to

Well I guess it is safe to say since the show is over that no one was hurt, so either he didn't hurt anyone, or was kicked off? I hope we get to see good fights and for the record MMA should be unbiased to all forms of martial arts and forms of fighting. At least if you ask me. Junie may just end up losing to a wrestler.

Great job TBC, thanks. It looks like only ones to be kicked out of the house were due to actual fighting in the house or instigating the fighting. I guess Junie's antics, while highly immature and beyond normal behavior, are really just that; antics. He never really got into a full blown fight with anyone (though he tried his best with a number of the house guests). We'll see if jumping into the cage will sway Dana to kick him out. I doubt it though because of his ability and future potential.

Junie could be the greatest

Junie could be the greatest fighter in the world but to attack the ring?!? COME THE F ON!!! He's lucky Nog has better training, professionalism and integrity than he does because he was well within his rights to PUT HIM THE F DOWN (Which is what I really wanted to see and what that kid deserved). What if Steve M. got hurt? He's not Big John and that's not what he goes there for. He doesn't expect that some fool punk kid is gonna jump into the ring and need to be restrained. Also I completely disagree with Dana in letting Junie and Shane stay in the house. They are a danger to others and themselves and they make MMA fighters look bad with his antics.

Thanks TBC for the list. I myself cannot discern a pattern especially since Dana kicked out Allen Berube for instigating the fight yet not the guy who threw and broke a class against another contestant.

Has anyone read Junie's blog of what happened in the episode? His view of what happened is completely different from what I saw and from Marhsall's blog. It's like 2 different shows. Wow he says he was just being goofy. How does Junie function in the real world? A trained fighter cannot go around getting into random fights, they would destroy a person so how does this kid function in real life? Just Curious. I've read the previous posts that said they knew he would ham it up but it sounds like even the people who know him had no idea he could be like this. He seems explosive and it's always followed by intense crying.

Although Eliot was on a different team I would have never expected him to disrespect Nog like that. It may have looked a little different in person, but on TV it looked pretty bad.
Other than that it was a great win and one step closer to the finals.

He said Nog is one of his

He said Nog is one of his favorite fighters and has been for a long time, but he didn't care for the manner in which Nog spoke to him. I'm sure he will go into it further in his blog. In general, I agree, they should have just listened to him and agreed with what he was saying, but we can't tell how it was edited together.
