A punchers chance

A punchers chance

This is a phrase that is misused way to much in MMA as far as I’m concened. After all do you hear people throwing the words “a wrestlers chance” or “a grapplers chance” hell no!

The truth is when someone like Frank Mir goes in with a guy like Hong-Man Choi it’s an easy win, all he needs to do is take him down and get a submission.
When Terry Martin faced Vitor Belfort it was painfully clear who the boxer was even though Vitor had broken his hand.

If Wladimir Klitschko came in the cage to face Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira well he would have a “punchers chance” of winning.

I've heard something like that, but it's normally worded a little different than "a grapplers chance." The issue is that if a fighter has nothing than their hands to rely on then it has to be hyped. An announcer cannot say "unless he lands a lucky shot this guy is dead!" otherwise they can't promote the fight or if the fighter does win they look like idiots. It also is true to some extent given the gloves in MMA vs. say boxing. Its just a way to give someone a chance in an obvious mis-match.

The reason I wrote this was I was tired of people saying shit like "All Kimbo would need is one hit" Well you know what, he hit Thompson a shit load of times and never did knock him out.
This is not directed towards Kimbo himself but the people who don't understand MMA. To have a "punchers chance" you have to have a boxers power.

Eliot Marshall won all 3 rounds! boxing judges should be fair you don't have to KO the other guy in their world!

He was a street fighter though eers and all those ko's in those fights gives people the thought that he has a "punchers chance". That is really the only way he is going to win a fight. He has no ground game so when you think of Kimbo, you automatically think of a standup fighter. The only way he is going to win a fight is to land a punch.
