This is supposedly part of a rumored out of court settlement that "The Natural" has proposed to Zuffa.

a little more speculation to

a little more speculation to throw around ... lesnar is supposed to be on 91 and a dude on mmalive said kongo is looking to have shoulder surgery and can probably be scratched off the list of dudes to put lesnar up against

lesnar - couture? ha (i dont see randy taking that fight)

I dont see the UFC tossing

I dont see the UFC tossing Lesnar that fight... Brock is probably thier biggests non-champion rising star. Why would they have him fight a guy who has basically had one foot out the door since before he even back back in the door. Fedor/Couture would make more sense to me at UFC because it's most likely going to happen anyway, so why not be the company to make the money off of it (more importantly using UFCs thinking to keep the money out of the hands of the competition).

this is all speculation, but

this is all speculation, but lets, for fun, lay out scenarios (remember that randy is the UFC champ and doesnt seem to want to stick around)

randy-fedor
fedor wins:
he beats the champ and has beaten nog a few times already... little potential moving forward unless mir beats nog. keep in mind fedor isnt on the ufc payroll and doesnt want to get sucked into an exclusive contract.

randy wins:
he still wants out, he still holds the belt. he doesnt want to fight nog, or at least he didnt when he beat gonzaga. pretty much the same upside as a fedor winning.

randy-lesnar
randy wins:
same as above

lesnar wins:
he beats a legitimate heavyweight champion. he likely has a share of the belt. this sets up a fight against mir/nog but also might make fedor interested in a fight against lesnar ... who has said he is interested in a fight with lesnar. lesnar is a contract guy. so it locks him up for more longer term stuff. losing to lesnar would knock off a lot of randy's luster and a fight with fedor in another promotion would be less oooh aaah shiny.

now that said ... lets weigh the draws of lesnar & fedor
fedor is huge in japan, not so huge in the US
lesnar on the otherhand, a good US draw

hardcores want to see fedor fight ... hardcores dont make the promotion rich
(same reason kimbo-shamrock is a good business fight, despite being seemingly garbage to fans more in-the-know)

just some thoughts ... feel free to disagree ... i just think lesnar-couture has a lot more upside and also has longer term potential
---
also, kongo might be off the list so who else can lesnar fight?
i dont see the UFC sacrificing the other prospects (carwin, velasquez) and a lot of other guys on the roster are a step down from herring ... i think the only step up is gonzaga, but gonzaga likely beats lesnar

I've spoken with a lot of people about Randy Couture in the last day. Things are definitely happening.

First, I can say with 100% certainty that there are current negotiations for Randy Couture to return in November to main event, and that the current proposed opponent is Brock Lesnar. They can't get Fedor, too many issues to work out on short notice, and he has a US-only non compete with Affliction.

This will be a new contract, not a return to the old one. It will likely pay him more and give him more benefits, but it will lock him into the UFC for the long term. In exchange for signing it Zuffa would drop all breach of contract charges.

From there, things get hazy. Randy is now training full time as if he is expecting a fight soon, but he still hasn't signed anything as far as I know. As far as the details of the Lesnar fight, I don't know if it's title or non title

I finished up Randy's book

I finished up Randy's book over vacation and it really seemed to come down to respect for him. I suppose if the UFC respects Randy (in both financial and non-financial ways), I'm not surprised that he's considering going back to the Octagon.

But, this news also makes me think the whole thing about fighting Fedor wasn't really his main reason for leaving in the first place...

I still think the most

I still think the most interesting fight for Randy is Fedor... either way though, i would pay to watch him fight Lesnar. I guess that is what makes Lesnar such an asset to the UFC. Lesnar certainly does make things more interesting... sad but true.

So if not Lesnar, who would the UFC have him fight? And what about Lesnar, who would they have Lesnar fight?

How about Cain? he may not

How about Cain? he may not be as strong, but his wrestling skills are close, and his stand up skills are better. He won a world championship in 2007 for the blue belt level in BJJ and I'm sure he has got better.
