My First Time

“No Rules” are two words that really jumped out at me.
I can remember browsing, through the video store, trying to find something to watch. I needed something to pass the time, while visiting my mom. The VCR probably was feeling neglected. I hadn’t been there for two weeks and was yearning to watch a movie.
My parents split up when I was 12. My dad had custody and I only visited my mom every other weekend. The town ,that I grew up in
, didn’t have a video store. So, when I got to my mom’s, I always went to the video store.
This trip was more special than most. I had no idea that I would come across something that would develop into a passion, as I got older.
I loved watching the WWF with my brothers. So when I saw the slogan, “There are NO RULES.” My attention had definitely been caught. I was thinking it was just some independent wrestling show or street fighting. The box didn’t look very fancy and it had a low quality look to it. It kind of reminded me of the cheesy “Faces of Death” boxes, but I rented it anyway.
And then it was off to the races…
I will always remember watching Royce Gracie, hardly breaking a sweat, walking through all three of his opponents. I can still hear Jim Brown talking like he a clue, but everyone watching knew he had no idea what he was doing. It may not have had the glamour of the World Wrestling Federation, but for that weekend I wished I had been in Denver.
It would be several more years, before I would see the Ultimate Fighting Championship again. I just know that that event will always be the one to have my heart.
We all come to this site, because we love Mixed Martial Arts. It may be your passion or just your outlet away from the monotony of life.
So what is your first memory of MMA? Was it watching Stephan Bonnar and Forest Griffin battle it out like true warriors? Was it witnessing Rampage beat Chuck for the title or Anderson Silva destroying Rich Franklin? Whatever your memory, I am sure it is a special one.
