Fantasy Draft
Hey, guys. My core group of friends and family that I watch all MMA events with had our fantasy MMA draft last night. We ended up having 8 people take part in the draft. The rosters consist of 2 heavyweights, 2 light heavyweights, 2 middleweights, 2 welterweights, 2 lightweights and 3 other fighters from any weight division in the UFC. The scoring period goes from July 1 through the end of the year, December 31, then will start again January 1 through the end of June. Once the scoring period ends, you will be able to sign free agents, and drop unproductive fighters. Total points wins, and we each put up $50, so the winner walks with $400. The scoring is as follows.
W vis KO/sub - 10 points
W via UD - 7 points
W via Ref/Dr. stoppage - 5 points
W via SD - 3 points
W via DQ - 2 points

Really interesting concept
Really interesting concept here, we should try to set up something similar for our site here. The only rule I'd like to know is what if someone moves weights, does that matter or do you just count them as there primary weight?
I probably like your team the best TBC, you have a good amount of youth and a champ. Only weakness is welterweight. Very nice.

These team names are great.
These team names are great. I'll be very curious to see how everyone does. Keep us posted (if you have time) -- after every UFC event would be awesome. Looks like there are a number of fighters who are fighting at UFC 86...
Thats one of the things I
Thats one of the things I was looking for was seeing when each fighter will be fighting and how many fights they will get in each scoring period. I like your brother Tim's team and your other brother Chris' team (sounds like the old Newhart show...this is my brother Darryl and my other brother Darryl) Problem for Chris and Ravi is that Nog and Mir wont fight for a while giving them 0pts for those fighters and one will lose eventually to the other. Its tough to pick one team because everyone has strengths and weaknesses. I like Rob's team but Hughes isnt going to get many pts for him. I'm with Captain too, what happens if Penn moves up a weight class? or when Silva fights on the 19th?

I thought about setting
I thought about setting something like this up a few months back but it's kind of time consuming, it is very interesting though. If anyone else is game at running it I'd help out.

Hey, guys. We discussed the fact that guys like Henderson, and now Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin and probably my star, BJ Penn, are going to fluctuate between weight classes. We agreed to keep them at the weight class listed here, and if they have 2 fights in a row at that weight, you will have to replace them during the next scoring period. That is to say, if Silva fights and beats Irvin, he will maintain his middleweight status. If he fights again at 205 in his next fight, he will be forced to move up to light heavyweight, and his spot at middleweight will need to be replaced. If he bounces back and forth between 185 and 205, he will keep his status.
We were out drinking for my brother Chris's birthday on Wednesday when we decided the team names had to have something to do with MMA and the UFC in general. Chris' fantasy teams are ALWAYS called the Nuttbusters (I don't know why he loves it so much, but that has been his team name in football, basketball and baseball for the past 10 years). We figured we would have to make them fun. I will keep those of you that are interested in the standings after every card. It's going to be a lot of fun.
King, I would totally run the thing, if we could get a good group of owners together. Eight seems to be the limit for participants, because the heavyweight division is so thin. I mean, Eddie Sanchez and Justin McCully got drafted! The point system is simple enough that I could put it together a couple of days after each event. Wouldn't be a problem. If you feel like we can get 8 team owners, let's get a sign up sheet started and we'll run it from August through the end of January.
TBC/King... If we decide to
TBC/King... If we decide to do this definitely count me in, I can also help as much as possible too, as TBC said it shouldn't be too much work overall.

These are the current
These are the current standings for my fantasy league, for anyone who cares...
Cheick Kongo's Takedown Defense - 17 points
The Gogoplatas - 13 points
Do You Want To Be A F****** Fighter? - 10 points
Joe Son's Testicular Trauma - 5 points
The Spinning Back Fists - 0 points
Mazzagatti's Mustache - 0 points
Nakamura's Umbrella - -5 points
Kalib Starnes Running Shoes - -8 points
I'll keep these updated throughout. Do we have any interest in running one of these for the die-hards over here? I can set it up if there is interest, other than that from King, the Captain and myself.
I'll be interested to see
I'll be interested to see which draft strategy wins out...Go for best available or fill need...What was your strategy in drafting TBC?
I forgot to update the
I forgot to update the standings here after the last card. Here they are...
Mazzagatti's Mustache - 37
Do You Want To Be A F****** Fighter? - 15
Kalib Starnes' Running Shoes - 7
Nakamura's Umbrella - 5
The Spinning Back Fists - 0
Joe Son's Testicular Trauma - 0
The Gogoplatas - (-5)
Cheick Kongo's Takedown Defense - (-5)
Total Points Through Two Events
Mazzagatti's Mustache - 37
Do You Want To Be A F****** Fighter? - 25
Cheick Kongo's Takedown Defense - 12
The Gogoplatas - 8
Joe Son's Testicular Trauma - 5
Nakamura's Umbrella's - 0
The Spinning Back Fists - 0
Kalib Starnes' Running Shoes - (-1)
TBC took over, baby! Wins from Markham, Velasquez and Edgar really put me in the driver's seat. I have no one fighting on the next card, so I'm hoping for a Roger Huerta win to knock my buddy Ravi off my tail a little bit.
