'The Next Cung Le'... rriiiiggghhhttt

Did anyone else find this fight as satisfying as I did? I am sure EERs did...

If you recall the hype:

http://mmajunkie.com/news/4636/the-next-cung-le-raymond-daniels-debuts-f...

"Daniels, a sixth degree black belt in Kenpo and Shotokan Karate as well as a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, recently concluded three seasons with Chuck Norris' World Combat League, a full-contact, team-based fight league that prohibits clinching, holding and grappling.

Daniels went 18-0 as a member of the WCL's Los Angeles squad, and earlier this month, his team won a season championship. The Long Beach, Calif. resident also owns a 16-0 mark in pro kickboxing.

"I'm going to give MMA fans something that they've never seen before," Daniels stated. "I want to become the greatest fighter of all time. Anybody that steps in front of me is just gonna be on my next highlight reel, an obstacle that's standing in my path to greatness."

The thing people often forget about Cung Le was that he was a National Champ in Greco-Roman wrestling and his take down defense is one of the things that makes him so difficult to fight. Le is the embodiment of 'MMA'. Daniels is one-dimensional.

Daniels was taken down easily right away and beat soundly. Nothing against Metcalf, but really, I have never heard of the guy before this and he is certainly not someone with all-American wrestling credentials...

It just goes to show, wrestling > boxing/kickboxing. A good wrestler > great boxer/kickboxer.

Yeah, calling him the next Cung Le (which is what the press release said -- I'm surprised Junkie went with it) was way too premature.

San Shou incorporates ground maneuvers whereas kickboxing doesn't so the step from San Shou to MMA was much shorter than from kickboxing to MMA...

Where is Chuck Norris? Wasnt he recently quoted as saying something to the effect of MMA being talent-less or skill-less or barbaric or something like that? This was is boy... dominating champ in his kickboxing league and regarded as one of (if not) the best in the world at Karate and he didnt last two rounds against an average professional MMA fighter in a smallish regional promotion. He had no idea what to do once he was taken down - totally lost.

Chuck was so devastated that he wanted to kill himself, so he took a huge dose of cyanide, but it only made him cough a little

I knew we'd end up with some Chuck Norris lines soon enough!! Eye-wink

He and Jay Larkin should have some sort of summit on the ground game...

We are sitting here reading this.....He said "to be in MMA you need some sort of grappling, Wrestling, BJJ, Judo, or Sambo", or its just martial arts.

I think its great that he got beat so convincing by such a sub-par fighter. It shows that you cant be one-dimensional and be successful. The guy was cocky as hell too... this is how he looked against Metcalf, just imagine if that would have been someone better like a Diego Sanchez.

Maybe I was thinking of Norris endorsing that book that was ripping UFC/MMA fans. I just thought I remembered Norris recently saying something negative about MMA.

If Chuck Norris was the lead on 24 the show would be called 12...

(Sorry had to... Love that Chuck Norris)

HAHAHAHA

Just watched the fight. Daniels didn't do a single offensive maneuver the whole fight...He looked worse than Kimbo on the ground, which I didn't even think was possible...
