Jesse Taylor To Fight On The July 19th Card?

Jesse Taylor To Fight On The July 19th Card?

This is from 5 oz of Pain:

Despite being kicked out of The Ultimate Fighter Finale, it appears that Jesse Taylor is set to make his return to the UFC. Sources close to the situation have informed us that, less than one month after he was supposed to face Amir Sadollah in the finale, Taylor will be entering the Octagon on the July 19th card headlined by Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin. Although an opponent has yet to be named, it’s rumored that CB Dolloway, who replaced Taylor in the finale and ultimately lost a second time to Sadollah via first round submission, could be the frontrunner to land the fight.

I think this is a little soon if you ask me. I think his first fight should have been towards the end of the year and been on the undercard. I think putting him in a fight this soon and televising it sends a bad message.

I'm the Capo mess with me and I'll tell you where to go!

they ought to try to get the tim - cale fight on this card, since it got scratched on the finale

I think its lame he will be fighting for the UFC so soon. White said to go get his life in order. Last time I checked, it takes more than two-three months to get your life in order if you have a drinking problem (which obviously JT has). It seems very insincere to let him fight so soon - bad message. I think he should have at least 6 months to a year clean and sober plus some fights in smaller orgs to really show that he has things in order....

Personally, I think Dana White played an angle here and I don't believe kicking JT out for a few months and having him miss a fight was a huge penalty. White got CB in the finals and can now also market the re-birth of Jesse Taylor. There was absolutely no way he was going to let JT go and let him sign with a rival promotion.

On the other hand, here's a question: how do you think the NFL would have handled his actions or the NBA? I can't see them suspending an athlete for much longer than this. Can you?

there's so many nfl players getting pulled over for dui. jevon kearse, cedric benson. the list goes on. odell thurman is banned from the nfl indefinintly forever x's infinity.

I think it's not what he did as much as it is the way Dana thought appropriate to handle it. Dana SAID go get your life in order and call me in a few months. If the commishioner of the NFL suspends you for your behavior off the field, there would have been a very specific amount of time and a regimented, objective measurement of the progress. But that's probably more due to the Players Union making sure the players are not treated unfairly by the owners/commish, etc. That's a road Dana does not want to venture down... in the end I dont think it's a fair comparison of NFL vs UFC.

Fair points Sixtus. Initially I thought the Taylor "suspension" was too light but then I re-considered and I believe it was appropriate. I consider Taylor a first-time offender. He was put on notice by having to miss the biggest fight of his life and now he has to work his way back.

I think most pro sports leagues would have a measured response to a first-time infraction of this nature. Now, if it becomes a recurring issue and Dana White doesn't do anything about it, then I think I'd be worried.

Given that the cops and the sanctioning bodies are not involved in JT's case, it was up to White to decide how to handle the situation. It seemed a bit hokey but in the end I think a message was sent in an appropriate fashion.

Now, do I think JT has learned his lesson? We'll find out in time...

yeah JT did not get arrested like half the NFL players have. He acted like a tool but he did lose out on the 100k contract. He now has to fight his way into the UFC and keep his nose clean. I would have liked to seen him "serve" a couple more months but Dana is judge and jury so he can kick him out on his keester if he messes up again.

Since you brought it up Ticker, the Lynch fiasco in the NFL still boggles my mind however. 100 bucks for hitting someone with your vehicle? I doubt he loses any playing time either because in his plea bargain he does not get convicted of anything. Slap on the wrist is hardly the case in this situation. He got away with hitting someone with his vehicle and not fessing up to it for a month. The guy is a multi million dollar football star and gets a 100 fine. No wonder they keep getting arrested.

Its not the same as JT and not comparing them but I just had to get that off my chest about the Lynch saga

Do we know the exact date when the JT situation happened? Because I know Amir-CB got to go home for a few monthes and rest up and prepare for their finals. I'm also sure Dana White has people keeping tabs on this kid to find out how much partying he is going out and doing or if he's really been clean. I think if he's getting reports that he hasn't been drinking in 3-4 monthes that should be fine to give him a shot.

It was a couple days after the show ended. JT and Amir won their fights, everyone went home except for a few guys who stayed in Vegas for a couple of days. Thats when JT did his thang!
