i don't have a real issue with someone having to work their way back up to a title shot, but in nick diaz's case he lost because of a lame cut. i don't like nick diaz but i respect his ability and believe he is a better fighter than kj noons.
i also dont have an issue with the next in line getting a shot at the champ, but the EXC talent pool isnt very deep and nick diaz IS the next in line.
seriously, if a title fight gets stopped due to a cut and you arent very far into the fight, schedule a goddamn rematch. if anything, the way diaz - noons ended is just as crappy as lawler - smith, the difference is shaw did the right thing and gave them (lawler - smith) an immediate rematch. noons got handed the strap after 1 round, and i dont think it would have even been a clear 10-8 round on the score cards.

i think the diaz brothers are funny, but i wouldnt encourage them or condone giving them mic time if i were in charge of any kind of production ...
thomas denny is apparently a king of the cage fighter ... and i am not knocking him or his ability, but i think diaz deserves a shot at noons. why the hell do you tell diaz to get in the cage and talk rematch only to not give him one? this was on live network tv no less... way to dick around the viewing public EXC
Don't forget Diaz missed weight by almost 9 pounds. Like Alves, I think he should have to prove that he can make weight once and then get the title shot. I wouldn't be surprised if that was more of a consideration because EliteXC would be foolish not to capitalize on all the Diaz-Noons drama...
they told dream that diaz couldnt participate ... i think its in part to ensure he wont have weight problems

I don't think Nick would have won that last fight as fast as KJ did. And it not the refs fault Nick is a bleeder. There are many ways to win fights and one of them is making the guy you are fighting bleed all over the place. Hell BJ Penn got to tell the ref Sherk was done!

i think eers and i have had this disagreement before.
its a garbage way to win a fight, ESPECIALLY a title fight ... its not definitive and doesnt really prove you were the better fighter. if you are a fighter fighting for a TITLE, i think you would want to prove your own worth and value by winning definitively. for the sake of safety, in that instance, yeah, you go ahead and follow the written rules to the letter of the law, but in the interest of the sport as a whole or the fighters involved, you have a rematch to prove you werent the recipient of a gimme. these guys are supposed to be badass, any time, any place kinda guys. its not any time, any place, but you only get 1 shot even if i win by some horribly lame method like you tripping and hurting yourself (florian vs thomas)
if sherk wasn't finished against penn, he would have protested ... he didn't.
he just sat there looking around in a daze.
he didnt know what round it was and he was, in fact, done. he was definitively beat in his title fight. in as much as he (sherk) bled all over florian but definitively beat florian to win the title.
I would way rather finish someone by a cut than a dec.

i like elbows and it's cool seeing cuts, but it sucks to see fights end on a cut. for me that's just not a real way to finish. unless the cut is gideon ray style...but still, i think if a fighter just got cut and still fighting back and doing good, it blows to see the fight get stopped. if the fighter gets cut and is getting pounded on enough for the ref to stop the fight that's way better. i never like doctor stoppages...

He was getting pounded on in their first fight, he got rocked and fell on his ass. Add his disruptive behavior and his piss poor performance in his last fight and you have reasons as to why he shouldn't just get thrown a title shot. Although I am surprised that Shaw didn't make this fight to capitalize on the circus that ensued after Noons fight.

the fact that this is a title fight is part of the reason i'm so adamant about the shittiness of this win. its one of the least convincing title wins i have ever seen.
at least serra got a definitive win over gsp (whether its verbal tapout or referee stoppage) ...
again, i'm not even a fan of nick diaz, but i think a cut is the one of the least convincing ways to secure a strap. at least 5 rounds of sherk L&P on florian and franca was dominant and definitive... way more convincing.

Since EXC has no depth of talent then they really can't put too many headline fights on one card. Next card is the rematch of Lawler and Smith so the next one will be Noons/Diaz. They will build up the rematch between Noons/Diaz with Diaz interviews on July 26 so more people will get hyped about it. Don't be surprised if Noons is in the audience watching to. Good call on making weight to Ticker.

i dont know if it was shaw or someone else with exc, but someone went into this big thing about how they have big plans for nick diaz ... then they pull diaz out of a DREAM title fight so they can put him in a fight against someone arguably better than noons for less reward ... the perception here is that exc is taking away a big fight from diaz to put him in a fight against a guy more dangerous than their champion, what the hell is that?
no, you can't fight for the dream middleweight strap because we have something in mind for you. title fight against kj noons? oh no no silly man. instead of fighting our 7-2 champion, we are setting you up against a dude that is 26-16 for considerably less to gain. have fun.
unless eddie alvarez is going to fight kj noons before diaz, this is crap.
this is the problem with interpromotional fights.
you screw over DREAM by taking away a good fight and then replace it with an EXC crap fight.
