CBS Paid for the Entire EliteXC Show

cbs.jpg

From MMAPayout.com

The Company advised CBS that it was unable to deliver the Sunrise Event ordered by CBS for October 2008 under the current terms of the Agreement.

Accordingly, the Company and CBS agreed to amend the Agreement whereby CBS would assume all expenses for the event and receive all revenue from the event. CBS advanced the estimated event costs according to an agreed upon budget in order for the Company to pay expenses related to the event. Additionally, the Company and CBS waived mutual exclusivity under the Agreement for the Sunrise Event.

EliteXC seems to only have benefited from the exposure, since all the revenue went to CBS. So, that definitely will not help the fledgling company. Things don't look good for EliteXC. It has definitely been a rough couple of months for the promotion.

NBC and Strikeforce Close to Airing Live Fights

cung_le.jpg

From MMAjunkie.com:

Strikeforce is in advanced discussions with NBC to bring live fights to the Peacock Network.

The popular West Coast promotion struck a paid programming deal with NBC earlier this year, featuring 30-minute, weekly shows with fights from past Strikeforce events. Extending that agreement to live, primetime shows would be a major boast for Strikeforce as it looks to generate additional exposure for its brand and expand nationally.

"It's been signed off on at many levels (at NBC) already, and I think we're at the final stages," Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "By the first quarter of '09, we'll probably have some fights going on. We would need that time frame any way to book the right fights and do it properly."

Serious talks between Strikeforce and the network have been ongoing for the past couple of months, and Coker says the dialogue is continuing. Approval at the senior most programming levels at NBC is the only hurdle left to clear to bring live MMA to a second U.S. broadcast network. "

Brandon Vera is Down to 202 lbs.

brandon_vera.jpg

Brandon Vera recently spoke to UFC.com and had a few things of interest to say.

On his previous outlook on fighting:

“I’ve never told anybody this, but, I’d been treating this whole thing as kind of a hobby,” says Vera from his training camp in Camp Springs, Maryland. “The best quote I heard was, ‘If you treat business as a hobby, it’s going to pay you like a hobby—but if you treat your business as a business, it’s going to pay you like a business.’ I’d been treating it as a hobby. I wasn’t treating myself as a professional fighter.’”

He also had this to say about his current weight situation:

“Yeah, I am at 202 right now,” he says. “My whole outlook on everything has changed. I am serious about this stuff now. It’s my diet, and my strength and conditioning coach, the 2004 Judo Olympian Rhadi Ferguson, it’s everything. It’s going to be bad for the 205ers, man. Bad. News.”

Since Vera is going to have to go up to 205, could you imagine if he went down to 185? With his size, you would have to think that he would automatically be placed in the chase to fight Anderson Silva. I wouldn't have thought that was feasible six months ago, but that could be an amazing matchup if Vera ever decided to cut down further.

Vera has proven in the past that he can be a force in the UFC and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for "The Truth" now that he's got weight-cutting down to a science.

Seth Petruzelli is Probably Questioning Fame Right Now

From Deadspin.com:

Seth obviously was trained at the "Patrick Cote School of what not to post on the internet if you are suddenly in the limelight."

These are from Seth's MySpace page.

I was initially skeptical about posting this because I was afraid that Phoenix would drive Pramit nuts asking him for Petruzelli's contact info. I chose to go ahead and post it anyways.
